| 12:23 am - I've succumbed
I'd been so good. For two years I've resisted the urge to merge with Clay, the temptation to single white female him (too bad Annette Benning hasn't resisted that urge).
Despite my love for him, it really hasn't been that difficult. Until now.
During AI2, I didn't buy a red leather jacket like Grease!Clay! Because the thought of me in red leather is too bizarre. And because I'm not Danielle (Marie).
During the Independent Tour, I didn't join in the rush to buy those Nikes with the pink shoelaces.

Even as my good friends were all sporting them, and even though I was charmed by the fact that he wore sneakers with pink shoelaces, I didn't buy them because I don't wear sneakers (except for actual athletic activity) and, frankly, these particular sneakers always looked like clown shoes to me (time for Melissa to chastise me for my horrible taste in shoes).
Then when Clay's Burberry obsession began, I think I was the only fan not to own some item of knock-off Burberry. Don't get me wrong, I love plaid. Just not this plaid. So I escaped the plaiding of the fandom free of the ubiquitous pattern. (I wish I could say the same for Odin, who's such a little whore for designer labels).
But everyone has their breaking point. We all eventually fall. Even stern Teutonic Katynka.

| 07:58 pm - We were on a break
Sorry, Clay. I've been cheating on you.
But remember, you were the one who left me.
Not that I'm complaining. It's been nice, actually. All couples need some time apart to keep their relationship fresh.
It's been an intense two years. But we both probably needed a little break.
Of course, mine was partly enforced by computer problems for the past few weeks (have I said "Fuck Gateway" lately?). But even now that I'm back online, I don't feel the need to go read about you tonight.
I know, that sounds horrible. And I'm sure it will pass and before long we'll be back in the throes of internet passion. And it will be even better thanks to this time apart.
So you enjoy your break, eat lots of Hot Pockets, and play with Raleigh.
In the meantime, I've found a new flame to keep me entertained while you're gone: ( Read more... ) Current Mood: horny

| 09:46 pm - Merry Christmas!
Hope you've all had a wonderful Christmas.
Mine was nice. Familiar, comfortable, uneventful.
The funniest moment came during Midnight Mass (don't they all?) My parents' drama queen of a priest gave an glorious homily on the message of the Grinch. After describing the Grinch's nefarious plot to steal Christmas, he continued grandly in his sonorous voice to recount how on Christmas morn, the Whos down in Whoville sang, and I quote, "Wahoo. (dramatic pause) Wahoo. (even more dramatic pause) Welcome. (meaningful glance around church) Christmas. (final dramatic pause)"
It was beautiful. ( Read more... ) Current Mood: content

| 12:04 am - It's a 'Burgh Thing
Last night I saw Clay perform live for the 14th time. Yes, 14. (Shut up, Melissa!) Each time has been wonderful, special, full of its own unique memories.
Last night was no different.
Last night, I attended a Clay concert like a normal person. (Well, normal if you don't count the part about leaving work early and driving 200 miles through a major snowstorm with a cat.)
Last night, I saw Clay in my hometown. ( Read more... ) Current Mood: nostalgic

| 10:20 am - Dashing through the snow In a couple of hours, Odin and I will drive off through a winter storm in the midwest to got to Pittsburgh to see Clay. Well, Odin won't be seeing Clay, but I will. Third time in 5 days. That's a new record for me. And I can't wait. Snow and ice and freezing rain can't keep me from the wonder that is the Joyful Noise Tour. I'm still obsessed with Good News and amazed that I will get to experience it for a third time.
In other news, I got an email yesterday from a friend who lives in Tanzania. He wrote, "I saw that Clay has a Christmas album out."
I'm not sure where in Tanzania one sees this, but it tickles me no end. I, of course, responded by gushing about Merry Christmas with Love and the Joyful Noise tour. My friend knows about my obsession, but when I told him about it last year, he'd never heard of Clay and had not seen any American Idol. So I was surprised today when he wrote back to inform me that "Clay seems to have a pretty broad appeal. Aside from him only Idol reject Michael Hung, managed to outlasted Kelly, Ruben and whatever-the-hell-Fantasia-was-it?" Hee.
So I learned from my Dad that Clay is a geek (see previous entry) and from my friend in Africa that Clay has a BROAD appeal.
Good news. Current Mood: excited

| 11:24 pm - Kat, did you know?
After seeing how amazing the Joyful Noise Tour is this weekend in Atlanta, I'm thrilled that I'll be seeing it again Wednesday night in Pittsburgh. I can't get enough Good News.
But I'm still feeling a little freaked that I'll be seeing it with my mother and brother. I'm used to going to Clay concerts either with my favorite Broads or with my ever-tolerant RL friend Brandy. Going with my family, who have no idea of the obsession that has taken over the past two years of my life? Who could never imagine their sensible Kat flying around the country to go to Clay Aiken concerts with people she met on the internet? That's just weird.
As I sat in Atlanta surrounded by old concert friends, I kept thinking how bizarre it will be to sit next to my mom and not squeal with delight if Clay tap dances again or to moan audibly at "Baby that's a fact" or offer up my heathen soul to the lord by the end of Good News.
I got my first taste of what it will be like tonight on the phone. My dad asked when I would be arriving in town for the concert. Then the conversation went on: ( Read more... ) Current Mood: contemplative

| 08:55 am - You never know
So I went to Target after work last night to pick up Merry Christmas with Love.
Now, you know I'm the world's most closeted Clay fan, so not only don't I actively try to clayvert innocent bystanders, but I have perfected the art of making stealth clack purchases.

Dammit, Clay.
I was enjoying wallowing in my melancholy the last couple of weeks. Mad at the world and determined that the world would know about it. I love being a bitter bitch.
But would you let me enjoy my depression? Nooooo.

| 10:53 am - Family values
As the election onslaught continues, I desperately needed a break this morning. A break from thinking about tomorrow and, worse, about the day after tomorrow. A break from radio and television ads and incessant phone calls telling me that marriage should be between one man and one woman and that I am a threat to American family values.
This is what Clay is good for. When you need a break from ugliness and despair.
So at 8:00 a.m., I got online when tickets for the Pittsburgh Christmas concert went on sale.

Dear Clay,
Hi. It's Katynka. Remember me? I was in South Section 4, Row C for the Raleigh afternoon concert the other day. Yeah, over there on your left, right behind musicmama when she took this picture. (She has a better zoom than I do, so I'll just use her pictures instead of mine.)

I believe you were talking to me when you asked about "internet people" who "stole" tickets from Raleigh fans. Yes, that was me. I beat up a little old lady from Raleigh, threw her to the ground, smacked her on the head with her pocketbook a few times, and grabbed her NC State Fair tickets right out of her gnarled little hand. Clay and I aren't very much alike. His worst allergens are my favorite foods (except for the mint). My singing is only slightly better than the sound Odin makes when when his tail gets caught in the closet door. (Odin says it's not any better). And unlike a certain someone, I never change my hair.

| 05:48 pm - Flying with Clay wings
Last Saturday night, I watched Clay on Miss America again. It was something of an anniversary for me, marking one year since the first time I traveled for Clay. It’s been an interesting year…
*opening strains of This is the Night*
Before last year’s Miss America, I had seen Clay live once. Once. Like a normal person (or as normal as a grown woman attending an American Idols Live concert can be). I attended one concert in my home town with a couple of real life friends. Nothing strange about that, right?
I almost didn’t even go to that concert. Seems crazy to me now, but I was going to pass up a concert 10 miles from my house. Even though by then I was pretty obsessed and a regular poster on LBFCA. Like many people, I think it was that blasted “OMG WHAT IS THAT MOVE?” video that made me get on Ticketmaster for the first time.
But even then I would never have imagined traveling to see him. So what made me start racking up the frequent flyer miles?
I blame it on AOL. (Hey, why not? Who’s going to defend them?)

| 12:12 pm - Touch
It's Labor Day Weekend. Time to put away the white shoes, dust off the old protractor, and write an essay on What I Did This Summer.
So what did I do? I did Clay. Well, not in the way I would have liked. But I did see him 4 times in 3 months in the company of wonderful friends both new and old. I've been horribly remiss in keeping up this journal, but now that it's back-to-school time, I hope to hit the books and record all the fun of my Summer of Clay.
But I'm going to start at the end of the story. This past Saturday night. When a year and a half in this fandom culminated in a single touch.

Is this thing still on?
Yea, yea.
Those of you who know me know that the idea of me actually maintaining a journal on any kind of regular basis is ridiculous. The fact that it's only been 8 weeks since my last post is actually pretty good.
Yes, I took a little unplanned sabbatical. It's not that I wasn't doing anything. I was, and I'll write about that more later. Because I'm back!
So what did it take to bring me out of hibernation?
